The season between hot and cold. You know the one. You might need the air conditioner one day and the heater the next.
I am trying to winterize the old house. I took the air conditioners out and got the windows closed up. I bought some storm windows at a yard sale during the summer, thinking I would put them into the wall of the chicken house so there would be light. I got the idea yesterday to maybe put them up on the inside of the house over the existing windows, eliminating the need to cover them with plastic. I hate the plastic because you then can not see out the window. There are storm windows on the outside but they seep air and basically suck. Anyway, they did not fit. I will hold off on the plastic as long as I can.
I have to remove the bales of straw from around the foundation of the house that I stacked there last fall because the propane line has a leak somewhere and has to be checked. I went a whole year on a half tank of propane, so I think the leak must be something new. Anyway, I now have propane once again (no more showers at the lake) but I can't use it yet. Crapola! I keep thinking how wonderful it will be to not have to heat water on the stove to wash dishes with and to take a hot shower in my own bathroom for a change, but I reserve the thought that it may not happen for a week or two.
Now I have to get on with moving the straw to the garden. It has already started to compost and I might get it tilled in before time to plant.

How I Got Here -or- You CAN Get Here From There
Intro- For those of you (you know who you are) who have commented that I should write a book about my (crazy) life... This is as close as I will likely ever get to doing that. So. Read, enjoy, (or not) and shut the hell up!
No one gets out of this life alive. Bullshit! No one gets out of this life completely SANE.
Remember this song?
I've got a long list of real good reasons
For all the things I've done
I've got a picture in the back of my mind
Of what I've lost and what I've won
I've survived every situation
Knowing when to freeze and when to run
And regret is just a memory written on my brow
And there's nothing I can do about it now.
I've got a wild and a restless spirit
I held my price through every deal
I've seen the fire of a woman scorned
Turn her heart of gold to steal
I've got the song of the voice inside me
Set to the rhythm of the wheel
And I've been dreaming like a child
Since the cradle broke the bow
And there's nothing I can do about it now.
Running through the changes
Going through the stages
Coming round the corners in my life
Leaving doubt to fate
Staying out too late
Waiting for the moon to say goodnight
And I could cry for the time I've wasted
But that's a waste of time and tears,
And I know just what I'd change
If went back in time somehow
But there's nothing I can do about it now
Running through the changes
Going through the stages
Coming round the corners in my life
Leaving doubt to fate
Staying out too late
Waiting for the moon to say goodnight
And I could cry for the time I've wasted
But that's a waste of time and tears
And I know just what I'd change
If went back in time somehow
But there's nothing I can do about it now.
I'm forgiving everything that forgiveness will allow
And there's nothing I can do about it now
It was sung by Willie Nelson and I resemble it. A lot. I think about this song often with few, if any at all, regrets about my life. This blog is going to start out being about those real good reasons and other things that have contributed to my insanity: being born, parents (or lack of), siblings (half and step), other relatives, friends and those who pretended to be, men, animals, moving, staying put, country life, city life and life not yet lived . Who knows where it will go from there.
